Easter Bunny

The
Easter bunny has its origin in pre-Christian fertility lore. The Rabbit
or Bunny as
it is sometimes called was one of the most fertile animals
known and
it was a symbol of new life each coming Spring.
The
Bunny as an Easter symbol seems to have it's origins in Germany.
The
first Easter bunnies were a pastry on which sugar was sprinkled.
The
Easter bunny was brought to America by German settlers who
arrived in
the Pennsylvania Dutch country during the 1700s.
The
arrival of the Easter Bunny was very important to children. The
children
believed that if they were good the Easter Bunny bring them
colored
eggs. The children would choose a in their home or garden and
build
something for the eggs to be placed in. Boys would sometimes use
their
caps and girls might use their bonnets. The use of baskets came
later as
the tradition spread.
